The turk’s knot filler. The lead weight at the butt of the whip is cover with a circular piece of leather and then the wrist loop is placed over that and attached using artificial sinew. The sinew is wrapped around several times to build up the basic shape of the knot. Then I wrap around that a wide piece of leather that builds up and smooths out the shape of the knot. It is attached with tacks that are hammered into the underlying lead. At this point I usually stop and then tie on the knot since this is my prefered size. However, since a larger knot was requested I wrapped a second piece of leather around that which I secured with more tacks. Now it is ready for the Turk’s knot to be tied in place.
